Matthews Leads West Indies Women to Victory Over Pakistan

By Eric Collymore

In the second T20I match of the series against Pakistan, the West Indies women’s cricket team secured a seven-wicket win, taking the lead in the best-of-five series.

Chasing a target of 122 runs, the Windies women comfortably achieved victory, reaching 124 for 3 in 18.2 overs, thanks to an impressive innings by team captain Hayley Matthews, who scored 58 runs.

Despite losing an early wicket, the Windies women quickly stabilized their innings with a 67-run partnership between Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle (29).

Matthews’ dismissal in the 13th over didn’t deter the team, as they only needed 34 runs for victory at that point.

With contributions from Chedean Nation (17) and Chinelle Henry (8), the Windies reached their target with 10 balls to spare.

Earlier, their bowlers restricted Pakistan to 121 for 7 in 20 overs, with Matthews shining with the ball, taking three wickets for 25 runs.

In a post-match interview, Windies captain Matthews expressed her focus on giving her best to ensure success for the team.

She praised the team’s efforts so far and highlighted their positive approach.

Looking ahead, the West Indies women will aim to maintain their momentum in the third T20 match against Pakistan scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 local time.

As the series progresses, the West Indies women continue to showcase their skill and determination, led by the impressive performance of captain Hayley Matthews.
