Minister Hamilton Urges Immediate Action to Enhance Workplace Safety

By Fabiana Mcklmon

Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton has highlighted a concerning trend of increased workplace accidents, particularly in the mining and construction sectors.

Despite a notable 37 percent reduction in workplace fatalities over the past four years, this year saw a regrettable rise in accidents compared to the previous year.

Minister Hamilton emphasized the need for urgent action to address this issue and safeguard the well-being of workers.

In his address, Minister Hamilton underscored the importance of a collaborative effort involving the government, trade unions, employers, and organizations to implement comprehensive safety protocols.

He stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Minister Hamilton called for renewed efforts to create safer workplaces.

He urged everyone to work together to make a difference and build a future where every worker can return home safely at the end of the day.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed annually on April 28, served as a platform to raise awareness and educate citizens on occupational safety and health issues.

Throughout the month, the Labour Ministry conducted various initiatives including walks, awareness sessions, inspections, educational programs, and fairs to promote workplace safety.

As we strive for safer workplaces, Minister Hamilton’s call to action reminds us of the importance of prioritizing the well-being of workers and implementing effective safety measures to prevent accidents and fatalities.
