Attorney General Urges Guyanese to Reject Racial Division

By Samuel Sukhnandan

Amidst rising tensions fueled by racial divisiveness, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, is urging Guyanese to stand united and reject attempts to sow discord based on race.

In his recent program, ‘Issues in the News,’ Attorney General Anil Nandlall delivered a passionate plea for Guyanese to resist the efforts of activists who seek to exploit racial differences for their own agenda.

Specifically addressing the controversy surrounding President Irfaan Ali’s visit to Brooklyn, New York, where some activists called for boycotts against businesses that engaged with the Guyanese head of state, Nandlall emphasized the importance of ignoring such divisive rhetoric.

Nandlall condemned the actions of these activists, labeling them as mischief-makers and alleged racists who aim to divide Guyanese based on skin color.

He expressed confidence that their divisive agenda would ultimately fail, noting a diminishing support for such divisive tactics within the community.

Despite the attempts to stoke racial tensions, Nandlall highlighted the warm reception President Ali received during his visit to Brooklyn, emphasizing that such acts of unity demonstrate the resilience of Guyanese against efforts to sow division.

President Ali’s recent recognition with the Legacy Award Class of 2024 for his leadership and vision further underscores the positive contributions made by Guyanese leaders on the international stage, despite attempts to tarnish their reputations through racial politics.

Nandlall concluded by affirming that President Ali and his government remain committed to engaging with the Guyanese diaspora, regardless of attempts to incite racial discord.

As Guyana grapples with the challenges of racial polarization, Nandlall’s call for unity serves as a timely reminder of the importance of standing together in the face of divisive forces.
