The Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) has marked significant progress in 2024, with President Emily Ramdhani praising the successes achieved and outlining plans for continued growth and expansion of the sport this year.
In 2024, the GBA focused on increasing awareness, athlete development, and active participation in both local and international tournaments.
Ramdhani highlighted that these efforts have significantly contributed to strengthening the foundation for badminton’s growth, generating greater interest and success.
“We are proud of the improvement we’ve made,” said Ramdhani, reflecting on the year.
Guyana’s badminton teams secured impressive results in 2024, capturing 8 Bronze Medals at the Suriname Easter Junior Badminton Tournament, 8 Bronze Medals at the CAREBACO Junior Tournament, and 1 Bronze Medal in Costa Rica.
They also brought home 1 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals from the Suriname International tournament.
The GBA also made strides in grassroots development by donating equipment to schools and communities in Berbice and Essequibo, in line with their shuttle time program.
“We also conducted outreaches and hosted the air badminton tournament,” Ramdhani added.
Additionally, the GBA focused on capacity-building with Priyanna Ramdhani successfully completing Level 1 and Level 2 Event Managers Courses in collaboration with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the World Academy of Sports.
Both Priyanna and Narayan Ramdhani became certified Level 1 Coaches.
In 2024, the GBA hosted six local tournaments and participated in six regional and international competitions, setting the stage for even greater achievements in 2025.
