Prime Minister Marks ICT Achievements with STARLINK Connectivity and ICT Hubs in 2024

The National Data Management Authority (NDMA) has successfully connected 215 out of 253 Amerindian communities with high-speed internet through STARLINK, and has also set up 146 ICT hubs in vulnerable and remote hinterland areas, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital infrastructure.

The initiatives were highlighted by Prime Minister Brigadier Mark Phillips during his end-of-year press conference on Monday.

Prime Minister Phillips emphasized that 124 residents in the hinterland were able to access the internet via STARLINK devices in 2024.

Additionally, the ICT hubs were established through the Hinterland Connectivity Project, which targeted underserved communities.

The project included the installation of 129 solar systems and 126 high-speed internet connections.

Over 1,150 residents were trained as ICT hub managers, technicians, and solar technicians to ensure the sustainability of the service in these communities.

The Prime Minister further revealed that the government had invested over one billion dollars to improve ICT access in these remote areas.

Reflecting on the progress made, he noted that four years ago, during his campaign, the idea of connecting these communities seemed distant.

Today, with high-speed internet access in place, opportunities like the GOAL scholarships and telemedicine are now available to these regions.

Discussions are also underway between the government and STARLINK Services LLC to secure licensing agreements for continued expansion of internet connectivity, aiming to further boost the region’s access to digital services in the shortest possible time.
