The Wismar Municipal Market remains a target for thieves, with a second stall broken into within recent months.
The latest incident occurred sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning, leaving stall owner Odetta Woodroofe counting significant losses.
Woodroofe, who operates a stationery and linen outlet in the market, reported that hundreds of thousands of dollars in goods, including stationery and bed sheets, were stolen.
She continues to assess the full extent of her losses.
The President of the Wismar Market Vendors Association (WMVA), Keith Hollingsworth, has expressed frustration over the lack of adequate security at the market.
He noted that despite previous break-ins, including one involving a goldsmith who lost millions earlier this year, no tangible measures have been implemented to address the issue.
Hollingsworth stated that the WMVA had sent letters to the Mayor and Town Council recommending security upgrades, including the installation of cameras, but no action has been taken.
He emphasized that such measures could help identify perpetrators and deter future incidents.
The ongoing security concerns have left market vendors increasingly anxious about the safety of their livelihoods.
They are calling for immediate action to protect their stalls and prevent further losses.
