Jamaul John of Kaieteur Club claimed victory in the inaugural One Guyana Three-Stage Cycling Road Race after an impressive performance across two days.
The race, which took place over the weekend, saw John dominate in the first stage in Berbice on Saturday, followed by solid finishes in the next two stages on Sunday, held along the West Coast of Demerara and in Georgetown.
The second stage on Sunday morning saw seasoned cyclist Marlon Williams emerge victorious along the New Schoonard highway, narrowly outpacing John, who finished second, with Briton John taking third.
In the third stage, held in Georgetown, the competitors rode at a swift pace along Main Street. Briton John took an early lead but faced technical issues alongside Jamaul John.
Despite these setbacks, both riders quickly recovered, with Briton John ultimately securing the stage win. Jamaul John’s second-place finish was enough to secure him the overall winning title.
Other notable performances included Alexander Leung, who claimed victory in the junior category, and Robin Persaud, who won the masters category.
Abigail Jeffery, the sole female competitor, and juvenile racer Dinesh Sookhai completed the race, displaying resilience in their respective categories.
Dave Bissoon also emerged as the winner in Category 4/5.
This historic race concluded with Jamaul John wearing the overall champion’s jersey, joined on the podium by Briton John, Aaron Newton in third, Marlon Williams in fourth, and Curtis Dey in fifth.
