By Delicia Janneire

The Ministry of Public Works has donated 20 tablets to the Guyana Police Force as part of its initiative to improve road safety nationwide.

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, officially presented the tablets to Inspector Gavin Boyce and Superintendent Brian Lowenfield of the Guyana Police Force. The tablets will support the Guyana Road Accident & Crash Evaluation System project, a web-based database designed to enhance the monitoring and investigation of traffic incidents.

Minister Edghill highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that the system will enable more effective traffic accident analysis. He emphasized that the collected data could inform necessary road improvements, such as addressing blind spots or implementing geometric changes to prevent accidents and save lives.

In response, Superintendent Lowenfield expressed gratitude for the donation, acknowledging its role in making roads safer. He also mentioned that the tablets will be instrumental in training efforts, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force’s road safety operations. The integration of AI technology into this initiative is expected to further enhance their capabilities in managing traffic incidents.

Training sessions for officers on using the new tablets are scheduled for next week. This development marks a significant step forward in reducing traffic fatalities and enhancing overall road safety.
