Georgetown Transmission Replacement Project Underway

By Kimberly Giddings

The Georgetown Transmission Replacement Project is in full swing, aiming to enhance water quality and flow across the city.

At a cost of over one billion dollars, the initiative involves replacing outdated cast iron pipes with modern high-density polyethylene and PVC pipes.

Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Water Inc. (GWI), Shaik Baksh, along with his team, recently inspected the ongoing work along High Street.

The project is divided into three phases: Phase One is nearing completion from High Street to the Pegasus Hotel, while Phases Two and Three will extend from High Street to the Avenue of the Republic and from Broad Street to Church Street, respectively.

To minimize disruption, construction is being carried out at night, from 8 PM to 5 AM.

Marlon Daniel, Director of Projects at GWI, emphasized the importance of this upgrade to ensure Georgetown residents receive a high standard of water service.

In addition to the transmission replacement, GWI is also working on upgrading the distribution network.
