President Ali Affirms Guyana’s Position Ahead of Meeting with Maduro

President Irfaan Ali asserted Guyana’s unwavering position on the territorial controversy with Venezuela, stating that Essequibo belongs to Guyana, and the dispute will be settled at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In a video statement, President Ali expressed his commitment to the position that the border controversy must be resolved through legal means at the ICJ.

He emphasized that there would be no wavering from this stance during the upcoming meeting with Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro.

President Ali highlighted that Guyana enters the talks with goodwill, emphasizing that the country is not the aggressor and is firmly grounded in its legal position.

He cited the strength of conviction among the Guyanese people and the robust support from bilateral partners, regional entities, and the broader international community as reinforcing the nation’s resolve.

In response to a question about the upcoming dialogue with President Maduro, President Ali emphasized that Guyana is not averse to dialogue with its neighbors.

He expressed the intention to ensure the safety and security of all Guyanese citizens and both local and international investors operating in the country.

President Ali’s meeting with President Maduro is scheduled for tomorrow in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Guyanese leader remains focused on maintaining a peaceful and stable region while upholding the country’s territorial integrity.
