FOWLER FINISHES FOURTH – TOKYO SUMMER OLYMPICS

Guyanese Olympic swimmer Andrew Fowler competing at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games in the first men’s 100 meter freestyle heat, finished fourth in a time of 55.23

Nepal’s Alexander Shaw was first in 53.41 seconds with Kosovo’s Olt Kondirolli second and Palestine’s Yazan Al Bawwab third.

Fowler, who has a personal best of 54.10, will have to await the outcome of the other heats in his event as the top 16 fastest swimmers will advance out of their heat into the men’s 100 meter freestyle semi finals.

The country’s other swimmer Aleka Persaud is set to compete in the 50 meter freestyle on Friday.

Guyanese table tennis player Chelsea Edghill, after winning her opening match, has exited the competition after a defeat by South Korea Shin Yubin.

Meanwhile, top ranked boxer Keevin Allicock lost his opening featherweight bout to Chile’s Alexy Da La Cruz on the opening day in Tokyo.

The other locals at the games are sprinters Emmanuel Archibald (100 meters) and sisters Aliyah and Jasmine Abrams who qualified for the 400 and 100 meters events respectively.
