Town Clerk Discusses Removal of Vendors from Business Premises

By Delicia Janneire

Town Clerk, Candace Nelson, discussed the ongoing efforts to remove vendors from around business premises in the city during a telephone interview with this newscast.

Following the successful removal of vendors from crowding the emergency area in front of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), the city council continues to address vendors located around the premises of several other businesses across the city.

Nelson highlighted that businesses such as CAMEX, Torginol, and POPEYES are among those requesting the removal of vendors from their surroundings.

While some vendors, particularly those at CAMEX and Torginol, were given some time to sell their goods and relocate, negotiations are ongoing with vendors at POPEYES.

Extensions have been requested to allow vendors sufficient time to relocate, and Nelson emphasized that the council has not engaged in any discussions about relocating these vendors to alternative sites.

However, she noted that vendors have generally been compliant with requests to vacate the premises.

Nelson indicated that the constabulary is conducting patrols to ensure that the areas remain clear of vendors.

While progress has been made, a few vendors around the premises of the outpatient department are still to be removed.

Over 20 vendors were vending around the premises of the Georgetown hospital, highlighting the scale of the issue that the city council is addressing.

The ongoing efforts to remove vendors from business premises aim to address concerns raised by local businesses while ensuring orderly and safe environments for both vendors and customers.
