GPL Urges Prepaid Customers to Upgrade to STS 6 Before November 1 Deadline

By Saskia Warrick

The Guyana Power & Light (GPL) is advising prepaid meter users to undergo an international upgrade from Standard Transfer Specification 4 (STS 4) to Standard Transfer Specification 6 (STS 6) before November 1.

The international upgrade to STS version 6 will bring enhanced capabilities and features to prepaid meters, including improved scalability, performance, and security of the technology.

It is crucial for prepaid users to complete this upgrade early to ensure that electricity tokens can be applied successfully after the November 1 deadline.

According to Renford Homer, GPL’s Deputy CEO Support Services, approximately 48,000 prepaid customers are required to undergo this upgrade.

Customers can initiate the upgrade process by contacting GPL via call or text message, with options even available through WhatsApp.

It is important for customers to complete the upgrade process, as failure to do so will result in electricity tokens being rejected when attempted to be applied in the meters.

To facilitate the upgrade, customers are advised to contact GPL at 603 8645 or 690-3128 to receive the necessary instructions.

This upgrade is an international requirement affecting millions of customers worldwide.

Ensuring the timely completion of this upgrade is essential to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of prepaid meter services provided by GPL.
