As the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) gathers for its 32nd congress, anticipation is high as party members plan and strategize for the upcoming general elections in 2025.

The atmosphere at the congress is charged with confidence as the PPP sets its sights on retaining government with an even larger margin of votes in 2025, under the leadership of President Dr. Irfaan Ali.

General Secretary of the Party, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, expressed this confidence, noting that President Ali has unequivocally proven his leadership capabilities, debunking any doubts that were cast upon him.

Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that the PPP is uniquely equipped to lead and transform the nation, drawing upon its rich history, extensive experience, and remarkable achievements.

He asserted that the PPP is the sole political entity that authentically represents the diversity of Guyana, particularly women and young people.

The significant growth in attendance at the congress, with over 3000 delegates and observers, including a large contingent of youth, serves as a testament to the party’s broad appeal and inclusive ethos.

Directly addressing the young attendees, Dr. Jagdeo affirmed the party’s unwavering trust in the youth, highlighting their integral role in shaping the nation’s future.

He recounted his own journey, starting in the cabinet at a young age, as evidence of the PPP’s commitment to nurturing and empowering young leaders.

Gail Texeira, another stalwart of the party, who chaired the opening ceremony, echoed Dr. Jagdeo’s sentiments, asserting that with the progressive agenda set forth by the PPP/C, victory in the 2025 elections is all but assured.

She emphasized the party’s unwavering dedication to delivering tangible benefits to the people of Guyana and expressed confidence that the electorate would recognize and reward these efforts.

Over the course of the two-day congress, the party will undertake key organizational tasks, including the election of a new 35-member central committee and five non-voting candidate members.

Subsequently, the Central Committee will convene to elect a new Executive Committee, secretaries for various responsibilities, and a new General Secretary.

The newly elected leadership will be entrusted with guiding the party through the challenges and opportunities leading up to the 2025 general and regional elections.

As the PPP congress unfolds, party members and supporters remain optimistic about the future, buoyed by the collective determination to continue advancing the nation’s progress and prosperity.
