The Guyana Amateur Basketball Association U23 Club Championship kicked off with thrilling matchups as the Meadow-Brook Nets and the Kwakwani Untouchables secured wins on the opening day at the National Gymnasium.

In the first game of the day, the Meadow-Brook Nets triumphed over the Stabroek Eagles with a final score of 85-71.

The Nets displayed dominance throughout the match, outscoring the Eagles in multiple quarters.

Shaquille Hescott led the charge for the Nets with an impressive performance, contributing 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Despite a commendable effort from Alafin Joseph, who scored 14 points for the Eagles, they fell short against the Nets’ formidable lineup.

After the match, Nets’ captain Peter Langevina commended his team’s stellar performance, acknowledging their collective effort in securing the victory.

He emphasized the importance of continuous practice and improvement to maintain their winning momentum.

Meanwhile, in another exciting matchup, the Kwakwani Untouchables emerged victorious against the Cummings Lodge UG Trojans with a score of 67-62.

Kellon Phillips stood out for the Untouchables, leading his team with 15 points, along with four rebounds and three assists.

Reflecting on the game, Alafin Joseph, captain of the Stabroek Eagles, praised his team’s overall performance but emphasized the need for discipline in defense and offense strategies moving forward.
