Green Machine Prevails Over Trinidad & Tobago in Rugby Americas North 15’s Championship

Guyana’s national rugby team, known as the Green Machine, marked a triumphant return to the field in the Rugby Americas North Senior 15’s championship with a thrilling away victory against Trinidad and Tobago at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain.

In their first appearance in the format in five years, the Guyanese team showcased resilience and determination to secure a hard-fought 24-23 win over Trinidad and Tobago.

The match began with Trinidad’s Karlan Alexander scoring a penalty to give his team an early lead.

However, Guyana quickly responded with a try from James Phillips, taking the lead by eight points.

Despite Trinidad extending their lead with another try from Phillips and Guyana’s Godfrey Pollydore scoring a try, the visitors trailed by three points at halftime.

Rondel MacArthur’s try early in the second half brought Guyana closer to Trinidad, with Kevin Braithwaite’s successful conversion narrowing the gap to just one point.

MacArthur’s second try, coupled with Braithwaite’s conversion, finally gave Guyana the lead.

However, Trinidad fought back with a try from Anderson Joseph, setting the stage for a tense finale.

Despite Trinidad missing the conversion, Jonathan Taylor’s try put them ahead once again.

In the dying minutes of the contest, Guyana relied on the experience and tactical prowess of their players, with MacArthur orchestrating a match-winning play that resulted in a crucial try.

With a narrow one-point lead, Guyana held on defensively to clinch the victory.
