Mackenzie Market Ravaged by Devastating Fire

A destructive fire engulfed a section of the Mackenzie Market on Wednesday evening, causing significant damage and losses to vendors and property.

The fire originated in the clothing section of the market and rapidly spread to neighboring stalls, consuming goods and structures in its path.

Lydia Allen, a long-time vendor at the market, tragically lost her store, which she had operated for over a decade.

Firefighters promptly responded to the scene, with multiple fire tenders deployed to combat the blaze.

Despite their efforts, a substantial portion of the market was engulfed in flames before the fire could be brought under control.

Sub Officer Fenton Drepaul Saul of the Guyana Fire Service revealed that the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, highlighting the need for thorough inspections of electrical connections in the area.

In the aftermath of the fire, personnel from the Linden Electricity Company were observed examining the electrical infrastructure within the market premises.

Sadly, amidst the chaos of the fire, the lifeless body of Troy Campbell was discovered in the market vicinity early the following morning.

The police have indicated that Campbell’s death appears to be unnatural based on evidence found at the scene.

As investigations into the cause of the fire and Campbell’s death continue, the Mackenzie Market community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident.
