Guyana’s national rugby team, known as the ‘Green Machine,’ is poised to make a triumphant return to action in the Rugby Americas North 15’s championship later this month.

The championship, the first to be held since the Covid-19 pandemic, will feature a revamped format introduced by regional body Rugby Americas North. In the initial round, nations will vie for supremacy in the south zone.

Guyana’s campaign will kick off with an intense home and away series against Trinidad and Tobago.

The first match is scheduled to take place in Port-of-Spain on April 27, with the return leg set for June 1.

Competing in Tier 1 of the south zone, Guyana will face the winner of the Tier 2 Tri-series, comprising Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and St. Lucia, following their matches against Trinidad and Tobago.

Rugby Union president Ryan Dey expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, highlighting their commitment to selecting a formidable lineup.

While acknowledging the challenge posed by Trinidad and Tobago, Dey emphasized the team’s eagerness to test their mettle against tough opposition.

The national team, under the leadership of seasoned rugby coach Larry Adonis, assistant coach Oslyn Olivier, and manager Petal Adams, is bolstered by the expertise of team doctor Aubrey Lindo.

Veteran player Jamal Angus will lead the squad as captain.

As anticipation builds for the Rugby Americas North 15’s championship, Guyana’s rugby enthusiasts eagerly await the return of the ‘Green Machine’ to the international stage.
