Nominations for the upcoming Village Council election in Orealla and Siparuta concluded successfully, with four candidates, including the current Toshao for Orealla/Siparuta, vying for leadership positions.

Additionally, thirty other residents from the two communities have been nominated to serve as councilors during the election scheduled for May 15.

Regional Executive Officer for Region Six, Narindra Persaud, who also serves as the Returning Officer for the election, oversaw the Nominations Day activities in both riverine communities.

Before the nominations, residents had the opportunity to voice concerns, including the need for a financial audit and other assets of the current council.

Persaud assured residents that the audit would be conducted shortly to address these concerns and emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth and transparent election process.

Persaud reiterated the government’s commitment to working with any elected council, regardless of its composition, and highlighted several projects executed in the villages of Orealla and Siparuta since 2020.

He underscored that the government’s focus is on serving the communities and supporting their development initiatives.

During the nomination exercise, David Henry, Laurence Vandenburg, Lewis Devair, and Thesius Henry were nominated to run for Toshao in the Orealla/Siparuta Village Council election.

NCN News spoke with two of the nominees, who outlined priority areas they intend to focus on if elected to serve.

Currently, 864 eligible voters are listed in Orealla, while 278 are listed in Siparuta for the upcoming election.

As the election date approaches, residents of Orealla and Siparuta eagerly anticipate the opportunity to exercise their democratic right and elect representatives who will work tirelessly to address their needs and concerns.
