In a thrilling match at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground, the Demerara under-19 cricket team secured a comprehensive victory over their counterparts from Berbice.

The match, part of the Guyana Cricket Board’s inter-county tournament, showcased outstanding performances from both teams.

Berbice took to the crease first, posting a total of 223 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.

Notable contributions came from Salim Khan and Afraz Budhoo, who scored 47 and 45 runs respectively.

However, they struggled to set a formidable target for Demerara.

In response, the Demerara batters displayed remarkable prowess, with captain Mavindra Dindiyal leading the charge.

Dindiyal showcased his talent with an unbeaten century, smashing 102 runs off just 72 balls at a strike rate of 141.67.

His exceptional innings, supported by Alvin Mohabir’s unbeaten 53, propelled Demerara to a commanding victory.

The bowling effort from Demerara was led by fast bowler Anthony Lim, who claimed three wickets for 58 runs.

Neeran Bani and Krisna Singh also made significant contributions, taking two wickets each.

Despite a valiant effort from the Berbice bowlers, including Kumar Deopersaud and Afraz Budhoo, Demerara emerged victorious with a seven-wicket win, leaving 14.1 overs remaining in the match.

After the game, Dindiyal expressed his satisfaction with his century, emphasizing his desire to leave a mark in his final year of under-19 cricket.

Meanwhile, Berbice captain Rampertab Ramnauth remained optimistic about his team’s prospects, vowing to bounce back stronger in the tournament.

The victory adds another feather to the cap of the Demerara under-19 team, highlighting their talent and determination in the GCB tournament.

The tournament continues with other exciting matchups, with Demerara scheduled to face Essequibo in a rematch on Thursday at 09:30 hours.
