– Mohamed questioned over midnight movements

Two passes near a senior police officer’s home, but no inspection of the school gate he claimed he went to see.

Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed’s account of his midnight movements on October 12 is facing fresh questions, as he explains why his vehicle travelled along Barr Street twice.

Mohamed claimed he had spent nearly an hour speaking with a parent about a school gate that reportedly injured two children.

But his explanation revealed a decision to postpone the inspection after travelling to the area.

”When we went down from Vlissengen Road, we turned right onto Barr, then we drove east along Barr, straight to Middleton Street. Then my driver said, let’s check the scene tomorrow,” he explained.

So why make the late-night journey, only to leave without checking the gate? And why did Mohamed’s account also involve observations about security arrangements outside Narine’s residence? Mohamed insists he never stopped near the officer’s home.

His latest account comes after an earlier statement in which he claimed to have no knowledge of where Senior Superintendent Prem Narine lived.

The questions come amid an ongoing criminal case arising from an alleged shooting incident near Narine’s residence.

Mohamed and two associates have pleaded not guilty to firearm, ammunition and attempting to pervert the course of justice charges. All three were granted bail.

Narine is also a reported witness in Mohamed’s United States extradition proceedings.

Mohamed denies wrongdoing and alleges a political plot, but that allegation remains unsubstantiated.

He also announced plans to file private criminal charges against Narine over the shooting incident.
