The Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Nigel Dharamlall has said the second phase of the COVID -19 cash grant, which started in the Hinterland region has been completed and distribution has now commenced on the coastland.
The COVID-19 cash grant was announced by President Dr. Irfaan Ali last year and was among several measures designed to bring immediate relief to persons affected by the impact of the deadly coronavirus.
According to the Local Government Minister, close to $1B has been allocated for the second phase of the cash grant distribution. He noted that distribution for the second phase of the cash grant has so far been completed in Regions 1, 7, 8 and 9.Only the primary households had received the COVID 19 cash grant during the first phase. Secondary households were required to fill out a pink form after which verifications were done so that they can receive their cash grant during the second phase.
