National swimmers Aleaka Persaud and Leon Seaton Jr are set to compete at the Puerto Rico International Swimming Open, which will start today.
The two Guyanese swimmers arrived on the Island earlier this week and be among the 300 competitors from 41 teams that are set to clash in the May 20-24 competition. The event will also present an opportunity for the swimmers to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, Youth Pan American Games and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) championships.
While Seaton has been in action as recent as the Swimming Union of the Americas Championship, it will be the first outing for the 15-year old Persaud in over a year, owing to the pandemic. Guyana’s two Tokyo Olympic-bound swimmers, Andrew Fowler and Jamila Sanmoogan, who were given wild card spots, were not registered for the event in Puerto Rico.
