The President is in Belize for the Thirty-Third Inter-Sessional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Dr. Irfaan Ali has been speaking about his expectations for the two day meeting, which starts on Tuesday 1st March.
He says he is looking forward to discussions on agriculture and food security and production systems for which he says a wide-ranging policy paper has been drafted. It looks at the prospects not only for Guyana, but for the region.
Removal of the barriers to trade comes up for what the Head of State hopes will be a robust discussion. Dr. Ali wants a time table to be developed, to which the region must commit to making intra-regional trade hassle free.
The core issues of Regional security, logistics and transportation systems the Presidents wants to be targeted as well, again with actionable time tables to be developed.
The big story around the globe – Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – the President believes will come up for discussion with his government and Caricom already condemning the action.
He says CARICOM of region of peace and one which supports very strongly the territorial integrity and sovereignty of nations. He believes there are wider implications for our region if this is not addressed.
