One person is dead after a passenger boat and a small wooden boat collided in the vicinity of the Bartica Stelling on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 87-year-old, Richard Bowens of Karrau Village, Essequibo River.
The passenger boat’s captain, Jules Benjamin claims that his vessel was a short distance away from Bowens’s wooden boat, when Bowens suddenly changed his course, resulting in the fatal collision.
A nearby boat rendered assistance and took an injured Bowens to the Bartica Hospital, where he succumbed, while receiving medical attention.
The captain of the passenger boat is in custody assisting with the investigation.
