Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony said that Government was able to secure 800,000 more doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, in addition to the 200 000 doses already ordered. These vaccines were secured through a purchase agreement.
“With 800 thousand doses we will be able to immunize 400 thousand persons because as you know this is 2-dose vaccine, first dose, second dose, and that is what we are working on. Not all the vaccines would come at the same time. They will come in tranches and as fast as we get, we will be distributing them and making sure that people can have access to these vaccines.” – Mins. Anthony
Minister Anthony is calling for those who are due for the second dose of the vaccine to be proactive in ensuring they receive this dose at the stipulated time on their vaccination card.
To date, the Ministry has available 235, 463 Covid-19 vaccines. Additionally, another consignment of 38,400 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX facility is expected to arrive into Guyana soon.
