The Guyana Agriculture and General Workers Union (GAWU) has welcomed Government’s recent decision to inject a further 1.5 billion dollars in the sugar industry, which had been starved of capital investment between 2015 and 2020.
The trade union says the need to retool and revitalize the sugar factories and cane fields is important if the industry is to reduce its production costs and enhance and diversify its revenue base.
It is urging that all monies made available by the State be utilized in a prudent manner to help alleviate and resolve several of the maladies facing the industry.
