National cyclist, 22-year-old Romello Crawford of Number One Village Corentyne Berbice has once again proven why he is regarded as one of the fastest cyclists in Guyana winning the Mohabir Baljeet Memorial Cycle Race on Sunday April 4, 2021. The 46-mile cycling event got underway with 16 riders in front of the Sukhpaul’s Service Station in New Amsterdam and concluded at the Gas Station’s Corriverton branch with 15 cyclists.
Prizes were awarded to first second and third place cyclists in the Juveniles, Juniors, Seniors and Veterans categories. Crawford took four of the sprint prizes on offer. Andrew Hicks took second place with three sprint prizes while David Hicks came in third in the senior category. Syborne Fernandes and Fitzroy Tang took first and second respectively in the Veteran category. David Hicks came in first in the Junior category as Mario Washington and Jeremiah Joseph took second and third place respectively.
President of the Flying Ace Cycling Club of Berbice and cycling coach, Randolph Roberts noted that there are many other racing events to be executed in the ancient county while adding that it can only be possible through collaboration with all stakeholders including the Private Sector. The Mohabir Baljeet Memorial Cycle Race was given approval from the Regional COVID 19 Task Force.
