Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Commercial Service, Bradley McKinney has described Guyana as a model for responsible energy development, praising the country’s approach to transparency, long-term planning and collaboration with international investors.
Addressing a bilateral chamber event attended by President Dr. Irfaan Ali and major energy stakeholders, McKinney said Guyana’s emergence as a leading oil producer carries major strategic importance for both the United States and the wider hemisphere.
“The energy decisions being made today are not just commercial decisions,” the official said. “They are geostrategic decisions that will shape not just the U.S., but global stability, economic growth, and energy security for decades to come.”
He noted that the United States remains committed to strengthening partnerships with countries that support transparency, rule of law, and market-based development.
Guyana, he said, has become one of the clearest examples of that approach in action.
According to the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Guyana stands out not only because of its petroleum reserves but because of how those resources are being managed.
The official pointed to Guyana’s emphasis on transparent governance, collaboration with global energy operators and long-term national planning.
“That approach starts at the top,” he said while thanking President Ali directly for his leadership.
He also highlighted the role of U.S. companies and institutions in advancing energy security, critical mineral supply chains and strategic technologies throughout the hemisphere.
“For U.S. companies and international investors, our partnership is not just a resource play, it is a model for responsible energy development.”
McKinney added that the United States sees Guyana as an increasingly important strategic partner in securing stable energy supplies and strengthening regional cooperation.
