The West Indies’ most successful cricket captain, Sir Clive Lloyd, is set to be honored with the prestigious Order of Caribbean Community (CC) award by CARICOM.

During the closing press conference of the Heads of Government meeting, CARICOM Chair President Irfaan Ali announced that Sir Clive Lloyd would be bestowed with the Order of Caribbean Community award.

This award is reserved for Caribbean nationals whose contributions to the economic, political, social, and cultural development of the region are deemed extraordinary.

Sir Clive Lloyd’s cricketing legacy is unparalleled.

As captain, he led the West Indies team to an impressive run of 27 Test matches without defeat, including winning eleven matches in a row.

He played a total of 110 Tests and 87 One-Day Internationals, establishing himself as one of the most successful cricket captains in history.

Notably, Sir Clive Lloyd led the West Indies to victory in the inaugural Cricket World Cup tournament in 1975, defeating Australia in the final at Lord’s.

He repeated this triumph four years later, securing another World Cup victory over England.

In recognition of his exceptional career, Sir Clive Lloyd was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.

Additionally, he was knighted by the Duke of Cambridge in 2022 for his outstanding service to cricket.

The forthcoming Order of Caribbean Community award is yet another testament to Sir Clive Lloyd’s enduring impact on Caribbean cricket and his remarkable contributions to the region’s sporting heritage.
