President Dr. Irfaan Ali Emphasizes Unity and Prosperity at Holi Celebration

During the Basant Utsav celebration at State House, New Amsterdam, President Dr. Irfaan Ali highlighted the significance of Phagwah in uniting all Guyanese and fostering a prosperous nation.

Phagwah, also known as the Festival of Colours, symbolizes the victory of good over evil and serves as a unifying force for Hindus and all other Guyanese communities.

President Ali emphasized that this auspicious occasion brings people from diverse backgrounds together to celebrate life, happiness, and the triumph of goodness.

H.E. Dr. Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana:
“It brings together everyone under the colourful banner of humanity celebrating life, celebrating happiness, and most importantly, goodness over evil.”

President Ali highlighted the unique convergence of three religious observances in the country and encouraged Guyanese to harness the power of spirituality during this period of faith, introspection, and goodness to contribute to the nation’s development.

“Let the power of spirituality during this beautiful moment in our country, when we celebrate Holi, Ramadan, Lent – let this spiritual period uplift our physical self, rebuild our conscience.”

Holi, or Phagwah, is an annual Hindu festival celebrated to welcome the arrival of spring with vibrant colours and joyous festivities.

President Ali’s remarks underscored the importance of embracing diversity and unity to build a brighter future for Guyana.
