Some 15,938 pupils are writing the National Grade Six Assessment, which commenced today and will conclude tomorrow.

Across the country, parents turned out early to accompany their children, ensuring they arrived at their respective exam centres on time.

In Georgetown, our news team, Nakasia Logan and Gavin Allen, visited several schools and spoke with students and parents who shared mixed emotions about their level of preparation and readiness for the exams.

Candidates shared their mixed emotions about preparations and readiness. Joshua Jaisingh signalled his readiness for the exam.

“We were preparing for this for a long time now, now the time has come we are ready,” he said.

Rayneece Seecharan is also confident that she will do well. She told NCN News, “I did a lot of studying and today will show me how I will do in the exam.”

For parents, this moment is just as significant.

Many say they’ve done all they can, from late-night studying to constant encouragement, and now, it’s time to trust the process and allow their children to do their best.

Latoya Bunbury said she is both nervous and excited. “I told him do what he understands and if you don’t understand you skip that questions and go to the other one and come back to the other one just make sure you do all your answers,” she said.

Raymond Seecharan expressed great pride in his daughter, saying “She is about to embark on her first test and challenge in life and I am hoping and I am proud and confident she will achieved the best of her ability and be the best version of herself going forward from today.”

Teachers, too, are confident that months of preparation will translate into success in the classroom.

Today, candidates completed English and Science Papers One and Two.

The assessment continues on Thursday, when students will write Mathematics and Social Studies Papers One and Two.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Sonia Parag has extended love and best wishes to all NGSA pupils, encouraging them to stay focused and give their best effort as the exams continue.
