More than 20,000 NIS pensioners are now receiving their pensions directly into their bank accounts, avoiding the need to line up to collect their benefits.

As the National Insurance Scheme celebrates its 57th anniversary, the way pensioners and contributors access its services is changing.

Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, highlighted the progress made and urged workers to check their contribution records before reaching pension age.

Minister Ashni Singh spoke about the increasing number of persons receiving their pensions through their bank accounts and called for more pensioners to use the service.

He says the move can save them transportation costs, time and the inconvenience of physically collecting and cashing their benefits.

“From December 2020 to date, the number of pensioners who received their pension directly into their bank account has moved from just over 11,000 to over 20,000 persons. Today, yes holly, I think that deserves applause. Today, 20,454 NIS pensioners took the bold decision that they don’t want to join a line to get their pension. They want their pension to go straight into their bank account,” he stated.

The push for digital services is part of efforts to improve the way the scheme operates and the quality of service provided to citizens.

But while the NIS continues to modernize, workers are being reminded to take responsibility for their own contribution records.

I want to say to every single working person out there, get your NIS contribution statement now. Check that your record is accurate now. And if it is not accurate now, fix it now,” he said.

Dr. Singh advises addressing any gaps now rather than discovering them later, as the NIS aims to enhance service quality through digital solutions.
