The Ministry of Health (MOH) is set to revolutionize medical training in Guyana by establishing simulation centers across the country, allowing trainee nurses to participate in practical training exercises.

The announcement came during the official launch of the Guyana Coursera Platform at the National Stadium.

This platform marks a significant milestone in the delivery of education in Guyana, with approximately 1,000 individuals interested in the health sector set to receive training to become registered nurses through Coursera.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, revealed plans for the establishment of simulation centers during his remarks at the ceremony.

He stated that over 1,000 nurses are currently enrolled in the registered nursing program, which spans three years.

Once they complete the theoretical aspect of their training, the simulation centers will provide them with practical training opportunities.

These centers will be developed across every region of Guyana, ensuring accessibility for trainee nurses nationwide.

Chief Executive Officer of Coursera, Jeff Maggioncalda, commended the Guyana Government’s vision of up-skilling its people and equipping them with relevant skills.

He highlighted Guyana’s record-breaking enrollment on Coursera, with 15,000 enrollments in the first 10 days, representing almost 2% of the population.

Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and Public Service, credited the overwhelming response of the Guyanese population for propelling the country into this new era of learning.

He emphasized the transformative impact of Coursera, with citizens across Guyana testifying to its positive effects on their lives.

The introduction of simulation centers for medical training represents a significant step forward in enhancing the skills and capabilities of healthcare professionals in Guyana.
