– For investment and export opportunities

Local businesses are being encouraged to strengthen their operations and meet international standards to take advantage of growing investment opportunities in Guyana.
At a business luncheon hosted by the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association, Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Susan Rodrigues stressed the importance of making small businesses investment-ready and export-ready, while U.S. Ambassador Nicole Theriot highlighted opportunities for partnerships beyond the oil and gas sector.

She said entrepreneurs must strengthen their business plans, financial records and management systems to attract investors and prepare for export.
“I would like to encourage small business owners or business owners in general to view standards and certification as an investment in your business and not another compliance requirement. Certification and incorporating quality and standards in your business is an investment in your business,” she said.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador Nicole Theriot says American companies are exploring investment opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, healthcare, housing and digital technology but face challenges finding local suppliers able to meet their demand.
“What companies tell me time and time again is that they struggle to find local partners who can deliver at scale. They also face potential hurdles like logistics, energy costs, an onerous and unpredictable tax regime, and access to land and skilled workers,” she said.

The engagement brought together government officials, private-sector representatives and business owners to explore ways to strengthen partnerships, improve market access and help Guyanese enterprises benefit from the country’s expanding economy.
