As Guyana celebrates its Independence Jubilee, locals are being recognized for their contribution to our culture and national identity.
The National Independence Visual Art Exhibition is now open at Castellani House under the theme ‘The Independent Artist’. More than 54 artists are showcasing their work as part of Guyana’s 60th Independence Jubilee celebration, highlighting the country’s creativity, culture and artistic talent.
Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, says the exhibition reflects the remarkable talent of Guyanese artists while reaffirming government’s commitment to supporting the creative industry.
“Art is really an expression of oneself, your imagination, culture, every single thing that you may see at that time. And to bring it out in this manner is something that is exceptional. It shows the talent and the ability of our Guyanese people,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson, spoke about the importance of art in expressing freedom, culture and national identity. He also announced plans for more murals around public spaces to further celebrate Guyanese artistry.
“This is a decision that President Irfaan Ali has already made and he’s also said that it must not only be limited to Region 4, that it must go all across the country,” he said.

The exhibition runs daily from May 15 to June 12 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Castellani House.
