-says country on path of economic diversification

-non-oil economy to average 7 per cent growth between 2026-2031

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has welcomed Guyana’s five-year strategic development plan, which it noted sets the country firmly on the path to economic diversification and resilience.

In the organization’s concluding statement for the 2026 article four mission, IMF explained that the oil money Guyana is saving in the Natural Resources Fund, is helping to protect the country whole boosting the non-oil sector.

At the same time, IMF lauded government spending in areas such as health and education. These policies, taken together, are helping to advance national development priorities.

Going forward, the fund is projecting that oil production will continue expanding and that the non-oil economy will grow on a seven per cent average over the next five years.
