Several students from Hope Secondary School have achieved certification in karate following their grading by Jeffrey Wong, Chief Instructor and Chairman of the International Karate-do Organization’s Academy of Guyana.
The IKO Academy, in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts, initiated a training program aimed at introducing karate to schools in regions 4 and 5, including Georgetown.
Swabrien Khan-Jodhan, Acting Head Teacher, expressed gratitude for the support from IKO Academy Guyana, emphasizing the positive impact of the program on students’ overall development.
A total of 10 students received certificates after successfully completing their grading.
The karate in schools program prioritizes training teachers to become instructors, with the aim of incorporating karate as a subject for Caribbean examination counsel.
The initial phase of the program is scheduled to span three months, during which the first group of teachers will receive certification from IKO Guyana.
