Hope Secondary School Students Excel in Karate

Several students from Hope Secondary School have achieved certification in karate following their grading by Jeffrey Wong, Chief Instructor and Chairman of the International Karate-do Organization’s Academy of Guyana.

The IKO Academy, in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts, initiated a training program aimed at introducing karate to schools in regions 4 and 5, including Georgetown.

Swabrien Khan-Jodhan, Acting Head Teacher, expressed gratitude for the support from IKO Academy Guyana, emphasizing the positive impact of the program on students’ overall development.

A total of 10 students received certificates after successfully completing their grading.

The karate in schools program prioritizes training teachers to become instructors, with the aim of incorporating karate as a subject for Caribbean examination counsel.

The initial phase of the program is scheduled to span three months, during which the first group of teachers will receive certification from IKO Guyana.
