Hetmyer Secures Spot as Joseph Gets Vice-Captaincy in West Indies ICC T20 World Cup Squad

West Indies has unveiled its 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, jointly hosted in the Caribbean and the USA.

Led by skipper Rovman Powell, the team features Alzarri Joseph as vice-captain and includes five talented Guyanese players: Shimron Hetmyer, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd.

Alongside the Guyanese contingent, the squad comprises Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Shia Hope, Akeal Hossein, Brandon Joseph, Nicholas Pooran, and Andre Russell.

Lead selector Desmond Haynes expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete and excel on their home turf.

He emphasized the year-long preparation undertaken by the squad and called upon the Caribbean community to rally behind them, recognizing this as their best opportunity to claim the World Cup title.

T20 head coach Darren Sammy echoed Haynes’ sentiments, expressing pride in the cohesive unit they have assembled.

He highlighted the meticulous fine-tuning process undertaken to optimize the squad’s performance.

The ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled from June 1 to 29, will see five matches hosted in Guyana, including a semifinal.

The final showdown will take place in Barbados on the 29th, with tickets starting at 600 GY dollars.
