In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, Region Nine has received four new ultrasound machines.
The machines were formally handed over to the Regional Democratic Council by Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony over the weekend.
These ultrasound units, acquired from General Electric for US$30,000, are set to benefit residents in Annai, Karasabai, Aishalton, and Sand Creek, eliminating the need for them to travel to Lethem for ultrasound services.
Minister Anthony emphasized that these additional machines will enhance the diagnostic capabilities of health facilities in the region.
Furthermore, Dr. Anthony encouraged Maternal and Child Health staff to utilize the ultrasound devices for assessing the well-being of expecting mothers and identifying any potential risks.
Additionally, in collaboration with Mohawk College, the Ministry of Health will soon commence sonography training, with the initial group of participants already identified.
The Regional Administration of Region Nine expressed gratitude for the new ultrasound machines, acknowledging their potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery in the Rupununi region.
Similar units have recently been provided to other regions in Guyana, including Regions Three, Four, and Five, as part of efforts to expand and enhance healthcare services across the country.
The introduction of these ultrasound machines marks a significant step forward in improving healthcare accessibility and quality in Region Nine, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for residents in the area.
