Guyana is set to make its mark in the Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from April 16 to 21.
The squad representing Guyana comprises talented players ready to showcase their skills on the international stage.
Leading the charge in the men’s category are Shemar Britton, Niran Bissu, Joel Alleyne, and Elishaba Johnson.
Meanwhile, the women’s team is spearheaded by Olympian Chelsea Edghill, alongside Jasmine Billingy, Thuraia Thomas, and Natalie Cummings.
With a successful performance last year resulting in a third-place finish for both the men’s and women’s divisions, Guyana has secured qualification for prestigious events such as the Pan American and Central American and Caribbean Games.
Godffrey Munroe, Head of the Table Tennis Association, expresses the team’s determination to build on past achievements and maintain their trajectory of success.
He highlights the dual significance of the championship, serving as both a platform for honing skills and an opportunity for players to secure Olympic qualifications.
Under the guidance of Cuban coach Duary Cisneros Yasel and national youth coach Linden Johnson, the team has undergone rigorous training to fine-tune their game ahead of the competition.
Individual training sessions have been complemented by intensive group training over the past month, ensuring that the players are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Among the confirmed participants in the championship are table tennis powerhouses like Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Cuba, and Jamaica, promising fierce competition on the courts.
As Guyana’s table tennis stars gear up to represent their nation, fans eagerly anticipate their performances and hope for a strong showing in Santo Domingo.
