Guyana’s First Independence Safari Launched

Rainforest Tours Guyana, in collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority and Guyana Beverages Inc., has announced the launch of the country’s inaugural Independence Safari.

This exciting event, scheduled from Thursday, May 23 to Sunday, May 26, will provide participants with a unique opportunity to explore the diverse regions of Bartica, Mahdia, and Karasabai.

The Independence Safari is designed to offer a blend of education and entertainment, showcasing local tourist attractions across five regions.

Frank Singh, Director and Managing Coordinator of Rainforest Tours Guyana, outlined the itinerary for this adventure-filled journey.

“The route we taking this year is that we are gonna go to Bartica, do a tour, after that we gonna go to Mahdia …then we gonna continue to Karasabai. We should be arriving in Karasabai in the afternoon of the 25th and into the 26th is when we gonna do the hoisting of the flag for independence ,” Singh explained.

Kamrul Baksh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, emphasized the objective of fostering domestic tourism through initiatives like the Independence Safari.

He noted the growing interest among locals in exploring their own country’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

“We have seen and we have heard from the private sector, from the operators  that there is an increase in domestic tourism. In fact I think this is the period where we are finding the highest levels of visitation from locals and that is because we have put on a lot of campaigns for the local market,” Baksh remarked.

The Safari promises to be an immersive experience, featuring visits to iconic landmarks such as the Linden Museum of Socio-Cultural Heritage, the Large Iron Christiansburg Waterwheel, and the Bauxite Mining Company.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore scenic sites like Rockstone, Bartica, the Benedictine Monastery, and Barakara and Marshall Falls.

With its focus on showcasing the beauty and diversity of Guyana’s landscapes and cultures, the Independence Safari is poised to become a highlight of the country’s tourism calendar.
