The triumphant return of the Guyana Harpy Eagles, champions of the regional four-day cricket tournament, sparked scenes of jubilation at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as they were welcomed home by a throng of supporters.
Amidst the rhythmic beats of tassa drumming, the Guyana Harpy Eagles, victors of the CWI Four-day title, made their grand entrance at the airport just after 11 pm.
Greeted by an enthusiastic crowd, including representatives from the Guyana Cricket Board, government officials such as Public Works Minister Bishop Juan Edghill and Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr., along with their families and friends, the players were hailed as heroes.
Minister Ramson Jr. expressed his pride in the team’s remarkable achievement, emphasizing the significance of their back-to-back title defense.
“When you defend your title, it’s always tougher,” remarked the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport.
President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Bissoondyal Singh, lauded the players for their outstanding performance and assured them of receiving their full entitlements, addressing concerns about delayed prize money.
“Under my watch, you will receive 100% of what you are entitled to,” affirmed Singh.
Head Coach Ryan Hercules extended gratitude to the Ministry and the National Sports Commission for their support, acknowledging the players’ dedication and hard work that led to their success on the field.
The Guyana Harpy Eagles’ impressive campaign, marked by five wins, one draw, and one loss, culminated in the retention of their championship title, with a total tally of 103.8 points.
As the celebrations continued, it was evident that the Harpy Eagles’ triumph had not only brought glory to Guyana but also united the nation in pride and admiration for their cricketing heroes.
