The Government of Guyana, through the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) has gone out to seek Expressions of Interest from contractors who can salvage the MV Barima wreck.

It was explained that the ill-fated vessel, which sank last month resulting in Guyana’s worst maritime disaster in history, is lying in soft mud at a depth of 42-49 feet and that visibility at the wreck is poor.

“Strong currents and tidal streams may be encountered at times, necessitating suitably robust procedures and equipment for safe operations,” MARAD further explained.

It was explained that interested bidders must be “reputable salvage companies with a proven track record of successful vessel salvage operations in Guyanese or wider Caribbean waters”.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by Friday, August 14.
