Despite some delays attributed to private contractors, General Secretary of the PPP, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, assures Guyanese that the Gas-to-Energy project remains on schedule for its 2025 completion deadline.
The Gas-to-Energy project, slated for completion by the end of 2025, promises significant benefits for the country, according to Dr. Jagdeo’s reassurances at a recent press conference.
He explained that the project comprises five major components, including laying pipelines to bring gas ashore, constructing power plants and facilities, installing transmission lines, building control centers, and upgrading distribution systems.
Addressing concerns about reported delays, Dr. Jagdeo clarified that while there had been a three-month delay due to issues with site handover from GYSBI and Exxon to the contractor, the overall project timeline remains intact.
He emphasized that the delay was shorter than initially reported and would not impact the project’s realization.
Furthermore, Dr. Jagdeo dismissed speculations regarding the connection of offshore pipelines affecting production time.
He stated that while there might be a two-week shutdown for each FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading vessel) during pipeline connection, ExxonMobil is considering synchronizing this downtime with scheduled vessel maintenance.
Dr. Jagdeo’s remarks aimed to allay concerns and provide clarity on the project’s progress and any setbacks encountered along the way.
Despite minor delays, the Gas-to-Energy project continues to move forward as planned.
