The long-awaited Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge in Linden is in its final stages of construction, with engineers working to resolve technical issues before it is opened to the public. Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill provided the update during a site visit on Friday.

“The bridge is almost complete. The issues that we are having is the approach to the bridge and the movement of the soil and how we will have a stable embankment that would not see movement after a couple of years of usage,” he said.

 Minister Edghill said while the project is close to completion, work continues to stabilize the bridge approaches and embankments to ensure long-term safety and durability.

He also acknowledged the inconvenience faced by residents and urged contractors to speed up the remaining works. 

“The daily fatigue of parents, children, businesses and workers must come to an end. And while in engineering there is need for caution and care to ensure that the end, the product that is provided is one that is resilient, safe, we need to move the progress forward,” he emphasised.

The U.S. $35 million bridge is expected to significantly improve transportation, facilitate trade and support economic growth in Region 10.
