Government is advancing its plans to transform Georgetown into a more resilient, well-connected and inclusive City through a series of Beautification and enhancement projects.

Some 300 metre of East Street in Georgetown will be upgraded.

This was disclosed by the Housing Ministers, during a walkout on Wednesday.

The works include enhanced drainage, upgraded walkways and cleaner, safer, and more accessible public spaces for residents and visitors.

The initiative forms part of the broader Georgetown Urban Framework plan, a Government of Guyana Project being implemented with support from the King’s Foundation.

Meanwhile, Minister Croal also met with residents of the New Cummings Lodge Housing Scheme, where he announced plans for a new road link to the Aubrey Barker Highway and additional community upgrades.

The project will see two access roads upgraded, improving connectivity between the East Coast Demerara and Georgetown, while recreational spaces will also be enhanced.

So immediately we are going out for procurement to be able to construct both the eastern as well as the western end going south to meet the Aubrey Barker Road. And so within a month, we will be able to have the awards be done for the commencement of the road,” he said.

The Minister also committed to working with relevant agencies to address concerns including street lighting, water supply, drainage, electricity and community security.
