In an electrifying showdown at the Malteenoes Sports Club Ground, Thomas Lands, the Essequibo Jaguars emerged triumphant against the Demerara Hawks in the GCB T10 Blast cricket tournament.
Led by captain Kemol Savory, the Jaguars secured a commanding seven-wicket win over their opponents in a match filled with thrilling displays of skill and determination.
With 94 runs required for victory, the Jaguars chased down the target with impressive efficiency, crossing the finish line with seven wickets in hand and three overs to spare.
Savory played a stellar innings, smashing 36 runs off just 16 balls, showcasing his ability to lead from the front in high-pressure situations.
His aggressive batting included three boundaries and two towering sixes, setting the tone for the Jaguars’ successful run chase.
Supporting Savory’s heroics was rising star player Mavindra Dindyal, who matched his captain’s contribution with an equally impressive 36 runs off one additional delivery.
The duo’s partnership laid the foundation for the Jaguars’ comprehensive victory, leaving the Demerara Hawks struggling to contain their onslaught.
Despite the Hawks’ efforts, particularly from bowlers like Akshaya Persaud and Ronaldo Mohamed, who claimed crucial wickets, they were unable to prevent the Jaguars from reaching their target.
Earlier in the match, David Williams and Richie Looknauth had provided valuable contributions with the bat for the Hawks, but it was not enough to thwart the Jaguars’ determined pursuit of victory.
On the bowling front, Ashmead Nedd was the standout performer for the Jaguars, wreaking havoc with impressive figures of four wickets for just six runs.
Nial Smith also played a crucial role, chipping in with two important wickets to keep the pressure on the Hawks throughout their innings.
In a separate match at the same venue, the Berbice Piranhas secured a convincing 50-run victory over the Essequibo Anacondas.
Quentin Sampson led the way with a blistering half-century off just 17 balls, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul provided valuable support with 23 runs to propel the Piranhas to a formidable total.
Despite a valiant effort from the Anacondas, led by skipper Anthony Adams, who top-scored with 28 runs, they fell short in their chase of the Piranhas’ target.
Captain Veersammy Permaul starred with the ball for the Piranhas, claiming four wickets to help secure victory for his team.
