Consultation on West Watooka Bridge Construction

By Shawnette Fiedkou

The Linden Mayor and Town Council are gearing up to meet with residents of West Watooka to address the forthcoming changes associated with the construction of the New Wismar/McKenzie bridge.

Mayor Sharma Solomon recently convened a meeting with representatives from the Chain Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) Limited, the company tasked with constructing the new bridge.

He expressed optimism about the long-overdue infrastructure project, citing the current congestion at the town’s single-lane bridge.

During the meeting, various aspects of the construction project were discussed, including the use of roads for equipment transportation, river usage, employment opportunities for locals, and the potential displacement of residents in the West Watooka community.

Mayor Solomon emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement, particularly with the residents of West Watooka, to ensure they are well-informed about the investment and any potential displacement due to the infrastructure development.

The Linden Mayor and Town Council are committed to engaging extensively with the affected communities, including West Watooka and Wismar, to explain the implications of the bridge construction.

They aim to address concerns and facilitate understanding among residents.

The construction of the bridge is expected to bring significant benefits to Region 10 and the entire country, facilitating easier business operations and enhancing economic capabilities.

The project is funded by the Government of Guyana.
